- Caffe Installation on Ubuntu 14.04 (CPU) with PYTHON support. Once we are done with the installation, we’ll also test the GOOGLE INCEPTIONISM (deepdream) code which uses Caffe. This is a follow up post to my last post – Generating images with Google’s “INCEPTIONISM” – deepdream where I had shared some awesome images generated using deepdream code. So, let’s get our hands dirty straight away.
Python Import Caffe
Thanks, so along this same issue, I now can't seem to get the build to be incorporated as a module. I'm sure I'm missing something very obvious, but I don't know whether I copied the appropriate folder into my python site-packages folder
To install Caffe with the python interface, PyCaffe (Recommended) you need to give the paths to your python include libs and the path where you have numpy stored. Path to numpy include folder must be given with great caution. This is only relevant for the Ninja generator the Visual Studio generator will generate both Debug and Release configs if NOT DEFINED CMAKECONFIG set CMAKECONFIG=Release:: Set to 1 to use NCCL if NOT DEFINED USENCCL set USENCCL=0:: Change to 1 to build a caffe.dll if NOT DEFINED CMAKEBUILDSHAREDLIBS set CMAKEBUILDSHAREDLIBS=0:: Change to 3 if using python 3.5 (only 2.7 and 3.5 are supported) if NOT DEFINED PYTHONVERSION set PYTHONVERSION=2:: Change these options for your needs.
Assuming you cloned the caffe repo in C:Projectscaffe, when you build caffe it will copy the caffe.pyd (the compiled part of the caffe python package into) C:Projectscaffepythoncaffe. To make caffe available in your python install you can copy the C:Projectscaffepythoncaffe folder into your site-packages folder.
This will make the caffe package available to your python executable.
(Side Question: If we are only using caffe/python/caffe, why was the build required at all?)
caffe-builder is a bit of a misnomer since it does not actually build caffe but only its dependencies. So you can't download a pre-built version of caffe from this project. I will soon make a download available from the CI server but this is not available as we speak.
I also don't know where to find 'the required DLLs' to copy.
You can use dependency walker to find the required dlls and only copy those. Alternatively you can copy all the dlls in C:Projectscaffebuildlibrariesbin, C:Projectscaffebuildlibrarieslib and C:Projectscaffebuildlibrariesx64vc[12|14]bin and you should be good to go. You need to copy those DLLs next to caffe.pyd.
If any of this helps you solve the issue you are having and would be so kind to send a PR updating the README so that other people can benefit from it that would be great.
